I'm late, yes I know, but that's because.....

SHE HAS ARRIVED!!!

But she is currently sound asleep. So we set off at 9am to do the 3 hour drive south to the Gold Coast hinterland, to the breeders house to collect her. Out she came, bouncing across the grass. I was like a mum with a new born...I am totally smitten. She slept in car most of way home; no crying; no wetting; a perfect trip, as my son drove home, I got to stroke her all the way back.

Ruby Bella is just gorgeous. And then we arrived home and Rex was first to welcome her to house. Within 10 minutes they were playing together outside, so I suppose you could say it was...mission accomplished. But with extra cuddles for Rex tonight, he is still my number one boy. As Ruby is only 12 weeks old, she is smaller than Rex was at same age, but has a good tummy on her already. Lets see what tomorrow brings once she wakes up....and fingers crossed I get a good nights sleep.

And speaking about tomorrow we have the profiling excavator coming in the morning to start with digging erosion control channels around the orchard. This will be a three day job and create a large amount of topsoil for adding under the trees. Its going to be a very big job but its got to start somewhere. The aim is to start from outside of orchard and work inwards, rather than tops of individual rows downwards. This will hopefully negate any further erosion should we get heavy rain before the job is finished. And of course worst erosion will be covered up first.

Next addition to the farm has been sighted, with the arrival of one huge Eastern Brown Snake. Estimated at over 6 foot long as well. Not a good addition and one we must move on very quickly. Brown Snakes are extremely poisonous, so a call to local snake catcher was done very quickly. Unfortunately the snake has disappeared (along with a lot of chicken eggs lately) so we must be careful walking around dam edge where it was last seen, and Ruby is going nowhere!!!!

So the next step will be to get some Guinea Fowl here, as apparently they keep the snakes away?
I'll have to research that one a bit I think. Other than that the wild life here is shutting down for winter and the cold air is creeping in each night. With sunrise at 7am and sunset at 5pm we are not getting as much done as Id like. But cold weather has kept the home fireplace burning every day and night for last 4 days, but its not like we have a short supply of firewood either, as its pruning season here. In a few weeks we will have a huge bonfire to get rid of all the farm rubbish (so much grass).

This week a surprise arrived in the post in way of an early birthday present. An Oil Press. So we are going to start making our own macadamia oil, using the nuts not good enough to go to the factory, or seconds. And then some macadamia shortbread too. Going to be a busy week next week!
